During the sixth session, students gave ten minute
presentations on the operation of their pop-up shops two weeks prior. The
presentations were to focus on a critical reflection of the running of the
pop-up shop. Students were to present to the class what they thought they had
done well, what they needed to alter or change while running the pop-up shop,
and what they would do differently if running a similar endeavor in the
future.
It was clear that the previous week’s guidance on
presentation preparation and delivery was well received by the students. On the
whole, student presentations were of good quality and groups were able to
clearly offer detailed analysis of their pop-up shop experiences. Some
challenges were highlighted by multiple group. Many groups spoke of initial difficulty with engaging the public for long enough to communicate their
message. Some groups changed their opening lines as they worked to better connect
with their customers.
The presentations highlighted that the students had learned
a great deal from running the pop-up shop. They were clearly able to better
understand the importance in practice the concepts covered in the first four
weeks of lecture, specifically the running of a service operation, key service
points, and the use of promotional materials.
At the end of the session, the lecturers divided the class
into groups of either fourteen or fifteen for the next group activity.
