The first session provided an introduction to the module. The lecture covered the basics terms and concepts used to describe entrepreneurs and enterprises. A class discussion included qualities, characteristics and entrepreneurial behaviors. The students were asked to consider their own personal level of entrepreneurialism, specifically the entrepreneurial attitudes they felt they possessed. Students became acquainted with one another through group activities and class discussions.
The aim of this first session was to lay out the expectations of the course and put forth an overview of the activities and assignments to be undertaken during the course. It also set out to give the students a chance to ask preliminary questions and familiarize themselves with their classmates, who will become their group members as the module progresses.
Explaining the assignments in a way that students could generally understand the forthcoming activities without going into too much detail proved challenging. The intention was to give the most pertinent information in the introductory course, and not to overwhelm the students. However, students reacted to the information with many questions and it was clear there was some anxiety about the scope of the assignments. It was explained to students that the forthcoming sessions would link to the assignments and the scope of the tasks would become more manageable as the module progressed.
